Also, if your district's education foundation does "honor a teacher", it is very meaningful to be recognized. The principal usually gets a list, so it is nice professionally to be honored, and often those teachers who are recognized multiple times get better luck when submitting grants.

Yes, THIS!!! And those of us who work at private schools and don't have tenure, well, we stand a better chance of being rehired every year. Because our contracts have to be renewed every year...

How do we find out if our district does this? DS goes to a private school and we are new to the area. I have no idea where to start.

Start with the principal, then ask him/her if there is a way to put in an official appreciation with the district or ed foundation.

One year her class got her a beach in bag. It was a beach bag with a towel, sunglasses, sunscreen, good book, insulated drinking bottle, and sand art. It was cute

I LOVE receiving gift certificates.....especially to places I can buy teaching related stuff, since I spend a lot on my classroom. Local bookstore, local craft store, local business supply store are all great ideas. Also, coffee shops are a sure winner. Or, wine.

Former teacher, teacher DH here. Any thoughtful notes are always appreciated, more than parents realize. In terms of gifts, coffee cards, book store gift cards, teacher supply store gift cards, etc... are well appreciated and useful. Wine is always fabulous, too, and easy. Even if teacher doesn't drink, she/he can serve to guests or regift. Boxed chocolates are useful, too We usually end up with a lot of them, and they are handy to bring when visiting over the holidays.

Weirdest gift my DH ever received-- a gift box of Axe cologne. So odd...

A note that tells her what you appreciate- these were the best- and so easy to fit in a file folder. GC's were very nice too.
