I was wondering about this, too. I was planning to give a $25 GC to a full service local steakhouse. Is that too "cheap" or is it appropriate?

Not too cheap, but I'd worry that the teacher might be vegetarian!

As a teacher, the BEST gift I ever received from a student/student's mom was a package of 3 microwavable soup packages bundled with some Wheat Thins and a spoon plus a bar of chocolate, and a note explaining that it was for days when I forgot to pack my own lunch.

Extremely generous and appropriate.

Re: Calling all teachers!

I usually give a gift card for a coffee place. For an end of the year present last year for my son's preschool I made a gift card flower and had my son paint the flower pot to give it a more personal touch. I included a handwritten note letting the teachers know how much we appreciated all that they did for my son.

Are you crafty? Pinterest has some cute teacher gifts. Yes, please no candy, baked goods, candles, lotions. I often will pass on the lotions. I am sensitive to certain scents. I have DH take to work and put on the work table for anyone who wants it.

Are there any local restaurants near the school? If so a GC would be nice. On the rare occasion we can eat off campus, we LOVE to do that!!!

That is a really cute idea!

I really loved gift cards, as boring as they sound, pictures/notes from students were ALWAYS appreciated.

Nothing that says "#1" teacher on it, no matter what it is. I only taught for 3 years before taking a break to be home with my kids for a while and my house is still filled with this stuff.

I must be the odd teacher out but I don't like coffee or wine... I have a family with a 'Grammy' who used to be a kinder teacher. She usually brings delicious pies from a local Amish bakery. So good. =) I also love notes from kids and gcs to hobby lobby!
