My husband bought me an external hard drive for Christmas 2 years ago. I moved ALL my pictures to it. All the way from when ds1 was a baby. I went to move some to it last week... The @$&# thing won't turn on! It blinks red, but the "fan" that says it's running won't come on and the computer doesn't recognize it. It also smells like something is burning in it. Great! Just great! My backup needs backed up.

That is one fear of mine too Carolyn! I use to always back up to the external and then do all their "important" pictures onto cds.

Got this at Costco. They had lots of choices. Does yours rewrite over old data? This does which is fine by me. I ONLY use it for back ups.

Oh, no mamas... reading all these photo back up stories makes me ill. We had a fatal demise of an external HD in May 2009 (on mother's day!) ... same thing as described above - I'd moved all of our stuff onto it and it just stopped working. I paid over $200 to an awesome place to try to have them retrieve it but they got nothing. We lost everything from when we went digital in 2005 until then. Including all of DD's pics. THANK GOD I had scrapbooked about 6 months of her first year and I had put the birth/hospital/first few weeks on CD's... but everything else - gone. Still makes me sick to think about it. Now, We have 2 ext hard drives so I have everything duplicated on those, figure they both won't crash at the same time, right? (Let's hope anyways!)

Yeah, I have a couple of early years worth of pics stored on shutterfly. (if I can remember my password) I have quite a few printed out too. But there I'd a good 2-3 years that I will be missing if I can't have it fixed. Shoulda coulda woulda backed up my back up!

SO should be cleaning the house to get ready for the influx of guests we'll have on Thursday, but I'm going to sit and knit instead.

Help me out mamas... I did a poll on this in pregnancy section a couple weeks ago, but we've crossed out a few of those and added a couple more.
Having a REALLY rough time picking a name for this belly babe...
Current kids are Laura and Carson.
What sounds best with those names?
*Carter
*Gavin (not my fav)
*Kellen (not hub's fav)
*Lincoln
*Evan
Last name rhymes with Dark and is Superman's first name.

I like Lincoln but not with your last name. Too close to Lincoln Park. I like Gavin and Evan then kellen in that order and don't like carter with your last name either. Something about the ct cl combinations.
