No, you can not say it comes from a smoke free home. We are severely allergic to cigarette smoke here and I can smell even the faintest of cigarette smoke.

No, definitely not a smoke free home. It is not the same as someone walking past an item in a store, or picking up something from a shelf and laying it back down. Your DH lives in the house, and people that smoke carry that smell on every inch of their body. I guarantee you I could smell smoke in that house if I walked in, and on things that were sold from the house. I can not stand the smell of cig. smoke anywhere near my child.
Depending on the fabric, it doesn't always wash out easily and sometimes at all IME. DH's mom is a chain smoker and we often receive things that we have to trash or otherwise get rid of because it doesn't wash out on everything.
