Nope--there are lots and lots of other ways to get "help" with gifts if they truely need it. If anything I would email and send links to other local charities.

There always seems to be a ton of those ads on CL during this time.

I was going to say yes, if I could swing it...maybe not though in light of all these responses. how sad that we would even feel the need to question it.

I meant how sad that there are people who would scam us...

I'd probably direct her to local charities and organizations that offer toys to those who need it. If she is truly needy, she can get what she requires from here. Sadly, many people who ask through CL would not be approved through valid groups because they are not truly in financial distress.

I actually did last Christmas, but I offered our used (in very good shape) box of toys my kids have outgrown. The lady was waiting at the store we agreed on with her daughter and I believe she truly needed the help. I was tempted when I saw her & her DD to offer some cash/gift card but didn't end up following up on that because I didn't have cash on me at that time & was running late to pick my kids up from school. She was very grateful and sent a thank you email afterwards. The little girl was probably around 2-3.
