Re: Pros/Cons of Hip Snaps?

I don't like side snaps for young babies, they are really tricky for me to fumble around with and secure - I feel like I am always trying to roll my baby a bit each way to snap the snaps closed (this is for a one size - so I'm trying to pull it to the furthest button which would be closest to the butt). I think as they get bigger this would be less of an issue, or IF you bought sized, and not a 'one size'.

Also I have heard it can be nice for toddlers - some prefer it when putting the diaper on if the toddler is standing. I have no experience with that but have heard some people prefer it for that reason.

I love LDD diapers! My girls have chicken legs though, do they snap pretty close to the front. I always thought of them as front snapping diapers lol. The HHS pattern doesn't have snaps across the front panel, so it falls onto the side snapping category in my mind. Diapers are so confusing!!!

Re: Pros/Cons of Hip Snaps?

Also I forgot to mention - if your baby has any kind of indigestion and he does well napping a bit on his side, that is not going to work well with side snaps - painful for their hips to rest on.

And I can imagine it would pull a bit tighter across the front then a front snap would (which would pull at the sides) so it honestly may not be quite as comfy for boys - though I'm not sure if it'd be so tight as to matter, too bad I can't ask my baby.

We used Grovia AIOs (which snap at the sides) for a bit ... I loved the fit, they were so much more smooth and trim than BGEs ... but Little Man did tend to leak over the top during naps at daycare (where they super hydrate in the mornings).
We have the same problem! I love them for the cuteness factor and the natural fibres, but the sides leak for us almost every time!

Are you sure? The Hippy Hippy Snap pattern that I am talking about has most of the snaps on the front and only two on each wing.

Here is a good picture that explains what I mean about front and back being almost the same.

Because of that it does look as if it is side snapping. Maybe that's why your were confused?

My son did really well in them except sleeping on his tummy for daycare naps. At home, no problems.

With our Grovia AIOs which were side snapping or hip snapping, whichever name you prefer... They didn't fit so tightly across the tummy as front closing did. Front closing make a sort of belt, side closing don't stay flush on the tummy unless they have elastic in the front.

We didn't have trouble when he slept on his side, and they weren't too tight in front. Maybe they would have been ideal if they had elastic or something in the front.

Apparently he does have chubby thighs and I didn't notice a difference between Grovia and BGE. We used both from about 28-32lbs.

So much easier to see not on mobile lol. I don't know if I can categorize that diaper in my mind! To me, hip snaps will still be to prevent wing droop (my customers ask for them frequently), but now I will know what people are talking about if they're not talking about the other kind! Thank you for expanding my knowledge

Ok, I'm confused? I too have only heard diapers described as being side snapping or front snapping while understanding that hip snaps are for preventing wing droop.
When I looked up the hippy hippy snap pattern the maker labels the two patterns for sale as 'super front snap' or 'one size'. It seems to me that hippy hippy snap is a brand name not a diaper type.
Here is one location where the pattern can be purchased: http://www.doddlebee.com/patterns.htm
I have had many front fastening diapers that actually fastened on the hips due to size & fit as well as side snapping diapers that could also end up fastened directly over the hip bones due to size & fit. I always stopped using either type at that point because it was never comfortable for my LOs to have dipes fasten directly over their hip bones.
After some google searches i've found the term 'hip snapping nappy' used and it just appears to be the European equilivant to American side snapping dipes. So in those examples it appears to be cultural wordage changes describing the same thing.

I don't mean to be off topic and navigate away from actually answering the ops question - but I'm not sure I even clearly understand the question at this point?

My understanding of la-di-da dipes are that they are front fastening diapers with hip snaps....is this not so?
