Thanksgiving dinner did not agree with my 6 week old

My poor little guy JUST fell sleep. He's been fussing and/or outright crying since about 8 or so. He would nurse for a good 5 or so minutes, then obviously be done, but 5 minutes later, be fussing again. And then wouldn't want to nurse.

He pooped once, and it was only a little one, but it smelled pretty bad for a BF baby poo. I couldn't get him to burp at all. About an hour ago, his little belly just started gurgling and then finally about half an hour ago, he farted like 6 times in a row, stinky stinky farts. And now he's finally asleep.

Clearly, something I ate just didn't agree with him. I am not sure what though. Turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, carrots, dinner rolls, all that I have eaten before. The only things I haven't eaten since he was born were pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie, maybe it was the pumpkin?

Poor thing! Maybe it was stress? Were many people there? Passing him about?

Hope it doesn't happen again! At least next time you'll know what might be up.

Maybe he was overstimulated?

could be overstimulated. He did sleep through most of the festivities, but he woke up shortly before everyone left, so he was passed around, but in this "speed dating" sort of fashion, as everyone tried to get time holding him before they took off.

Poor little dude!
Do you have any gas drops? I can't remember what they're called at all right now, but we used them with the kids when they got really gassy/upset and they definitely helped.

Could be carb overload... potatoes, carrots, corn, & rolls are all starchy. The gas drops are Simethecone (Mylicon is the name-brand). Gripe Water is the best thing for my DD's tummy.

I was thinking it could be all the different spices in the pie or bread or maybe what the turkey was seasoned with. :/ I agree with rubbing his tummy & gas drops if you have any,I hope he feels well soon.

THAT's it! Thanks!

Gripe water worked wonders for my babies hiccups, but did nothing for their gas bubbles.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner did not agree with my 6 week old

Could be the pumpkin but I would suspect the high amount of dairy that's in thanksgiving dinner. Between the evap milk in pie, all that butter, cream and cheese that's in all the other dishes it could cause a baby that's not typically sensitive or only mildly trouble. Plus if he's between 6-8weeks old, that's when food allergy symptoms begin to emerge. They're not usually obvious before that age.

Additionally, in a visiting situation I know that I was always a little more rushed to feed the baby and didn't let down as easily so the baby gets less hindmilk due to shorter, more frequent feedings and possibly stress causing fewer let-downs. Lots and lots of foremilk can lead to a very upset tummy, gas, fussiness and green explosive poo.

I don't think it's food related. We always look for correlations and sometimes it's simply a little biggie or anything unrelated to what we have done.
