Pre-E warning signs?
I wanted some opinions to see if I should start being concerned. I am 34 weeks and up until this point perfectly healthy.
At my appointment on Wednesday my BP was 118/70. No swelling or protein in my urine. My BP up until Wednesday was generally 105/60 or lower throughout the pregnancy. I was rushing to the midwife appointment due to being late and I chalked my BP rise up to the stress of rushing. The last two days I've noticed mild swelling in my hands and feet. I can still get my wedding ring on and off but its uncomfortable. I do not have pitting edema. As an aside I've spent the last two days largely on my feet preparing thanksgiving dinner. And last but not least I've gained 3.5 lbs in the last 3 days. I also have been eating lots of yummy and high fat holiday foods. Should I be concerned that I am creeping towards Pre-E or do these all sound like normal 34 week symptoms? I was hoping some people that have experienced Pre-E or those that are knowledgeable could give me their two cents. I am going to check my BP at work today but I doubt it will be great because my job is very stressful and I always read higher when I am there. ![]() And I am planning to check with my midwife but she is out of town and I'd rather not bother the back up person, especially since she doesn't know me. I am also hesitant to sound like as much of a worrier but at this point I'd be devastated to risk out of a home birth. I also don't want to "plant" ideas that I am high risk and start the process of that happening because I am a worrier and got my provider nervous. I am also going to try eating a bunch of eggs and several bananas to see if that will help. Since their is anecdotal evidence of protein helping...

Re: Pre-E warning signs?
Could be normal.. but could be getting towards pre-e. I really can't say, but I would go to your midwife and be tested. Ask for the 12-hour urine screen, since the protein dip doesn't always detect it. Right now you do sound normal though, high blood pressure doesn't always develop into preeclampsia. Definitely eat your protein, drink lots of water, rest, and consider leaving your wedding ring off for now. You wouldn't want it to get stuck if you swell any more (which is normal). Feet and ankles are really normal, they usually get more concerned when the swelling is up to your knees or in your hands and face. You are most likely fine though so try not to worry

Re: Pre-E warning signs?
Sounds normal to me...when I developed pre-e, (HELLP syndrome actually), my blood pressure suddenly SKY ROCKETED. I can't remember the exact number because honestly I paid little attention to my BP since it was always normal, but it was like 169/90something.
I had had a ton of swelling, but drs said it was normal. I had no protein issues until the BP also sky rocketed.

Re: Pre-E warning signs?
Sounds normal. I have had it with my last two pregnancies, and blood pressure was REALLY high. You'll know too, your face feels like it was stung by a bee and you can't bend your fingers. However, I think it is very important to pay attention to your body like you are. I would make sure your midwife knows everything you are feeling and let her make the ultimate decision
Good luck, and let other people take care of the Thanksgiving cleanup

Re: Pre-E warning signs?
Sounds totally normal. I would not worry yourself much, you'll make your bp go up even more. GL

It sounds normal, but everyone can have different symptoms. My friend had a gradual rise in bp, a little swelling and very high protein level.

Sounds normal to me.
If your face starts to swell, or ankles start pitting then get checked out. I had severe pre-e (180/115) after ds was born and my only symptom was swollen face and extreme dizziness.

Re: Pre-E warning signs?
Swelling can be quite normal, so with just that I'd hesitate. What you want to look out for is signs that your blood pressure is rising. Things like headaches, visual artifacts, dizziness that isn't just for a few seconds when you get up too fast etc. I'd tell your provider about it, but honestly I swelled a lot more with my first completely healthy pregnancy, vs the second where I was induced for borderline pre-e.

Re: Pre-E warning signs?
Thanks everyone! I feel a lot better. I haven't been eating well lately and I started to worry when my BP rose and I swelled a little. I think this is just normal pregnancy stuff. I also checked my BP 112/70 and considering I am working and stressed, its a good BP.
