Baby City pockets - brand new and repelling

I saw several people on here had tried these, and I couldn't argue with the price so I bought a few off Ebay. I washed once in my usual cycle, and they won't absorb anything through the fleece. The prefold inside is completely dry. I have other fleece I wash this way so not sure why it's happening, but surely one wash with limited cd-safe detergent wouldn't cause build-up on only those diapers? I put a couple tablespoons of water inside and rolled it back and forth for a minute or two but it never would soak through. They immediately leak on my baby. They look brand new, so I don't think they sent me all used ones. Anyone have these and have this experience?

It may just take more than one wash to get the new-fabric finishing chemicals off of the fleece. I've had that happen to me before too. I'm sure after another wash or 2 they'll stop repelling on you.
