Re: is this too much?

My 10 year old goes to ps and whines all the time. He has WAY WAY more work than that so I'd say she's pretty lucky. Also, lucky to have the option to self pace and break assignments up. I just chalk it up to hormones and "feeling" out how far she can push you.

Re: is this too much?

I think whining just goes with the age. My almost 10 yo has to be drug kicking and screaming through most of her work and none of it is too hard. Some of it is challenging, but she'll just have to get over it. I think what you have is similar to what we are doing:

Math-one lesson in Saxon
Spelling-one activity each day (write words, syllabize, dictation, play spelling city games, etc.)
Grammar-one section of a lesson (usually 5-7 questions and then a writing assignment at the end)--I try to go ahead and assign the writing on Monday and then use the skills taught to incorporate into the writing throughout the week-final draft due on Friday
Geography-country study right now-make a map, read a chapter, watch a documentary, etc.
History &/or Science-sometimes one, sometimes both--usually reading a couple pages and discussing or reading an outside book (a couple pertinent chapters)
Religion-this has been hit or miss--I just ordered texts, so now it will be more regular-I'm going to try and average one chapter a week-so reading alternating with activities, prayer time, bible study, etc.
Reading-free reading at night before bed and read aloud also (no specific time required b/c they do ok without me stating a certain time amount)

I'm in agreement with everyone here...my 10 year old has a similar workload. And he whines all the time! Just the way it goes.
