What would you get if.....
what would you get if you had a $100 amazon gift card. I recently won a $100 amazon gift card and I think I am going to spend it on Home Schooling stuff for the girls. I would like to Go for first grade stuff. Do they carry curriculum books on amazon cues i am not fining them? What types of manipulative are must haves? I would love to have some ideas of what to get. Im not sure where to start. But I have a $100 and I dont want to waste it I want to get important things with it.

Re: What would you get if.....
I would buy every single Genevive Foster book. Amazing. They are the best history stories. She is an amzing writier. As far as manipulatives it depends on the math program you are using. We use RightStart and it has a gazillion manipulatives. That is why I got it. Games and manipulatives.

Re: What would you get if.....
Probably a microscope. It would probably take the full amount, but it'd be something all three kids can use and enjoy.
If not that, I don't know. I could spend the entire thing on books, but then DH would be upset with me for getting even more books. As if you can ever have too many! lol |

Re: What would you get if.....
Are you using a planned out curriculum? If yes (like sonlight, HOD), then get the books that go with that plan. That's what I'd do...I'd but sonlight core A books b/c they are cheaper on amazon.
I also have artistic pursuits book 1 for k-3. I think that's on amazon. I'm using it for first grade. Oh and Drawing with Children. It has a bird of some sort on the cover. I'd also get first language lessons 1, writing with ease 1, and the workbooks. I'm using those for 1st next year, too. All About Spelling? Not sure if it's on amazon. Um...bibles? I'm also getting Names of God study by Children Desiring God. Kumon workbooks? I also like cuisinaire rods but havent used them much b/c my 2 year old throws them everywhere!! A balance scale for math...unifix cubes, maybe? A lapdesk for sitting on the couch.

Re: What would you get if.....
It really depends on the curriculum you use. I use Saxon for math and you can definitely buy it on amazon. I don't usually start Saxon until 4th grade though so for younger grades I start with things like Great Source books and the Problem Solving or Teacher Resource books that go with them. Then I add manipulatives. Good manipulatives include pattern blocks, unifix cubes, student clocks, money, bear family and bucket scale, base ten blocks and fraction circles just to name a few. These are the things I would buy (actually I just did for my 2nd grader plus several more things).
Here are the books I'm using for math this year. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20 Most of this is below him so far as he finished 1st grade already but I teach a lot with manipulatives and then go over several pages of book work and he loves it. We will get on to new material soon. I love the Great Source books, there are some good Reading and Writing books in the series as well. I also have this http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../chrisficti-20 It is pretty cool for kids who like hands on math

This year we dont have a set curriculum I have just been pulling things together for each week. She is not suppose to be in kindergarten yet for public school requirements. Pre K work was too easy for her so we moved on to kindergarten work and a lot of it has just been review so we have started some first grade work. I did not see a point in buying kindergarten curriculum set when we would be breezing through most of it. I think we will be getting a first grade curriculum set for next year. But I have no idea what we are going to go with. we may end up having to go with a combination of curriculum. I thought of using Math U See next year because some things I just have a hard time explaining and I like that it comes with a DVD to help teach it. I also need something for science projects and how to explain them on a level they can understand. unifix cubes are on our list I think they would be helpful as well as some geometric shapes. I keep trying to think of things we might need but might not be able to afford other wise we have a small home schooling budget so I always have to spend wisely this gift card is a big bonus for us.
