If you had both these toys..

Which are the M&D pattern blocks and beginner pattern blocks if you know what those are, would you keep both? Get rid of one? Condense into one bin that fits on the shelf? Get rid of both? They get played with once in a while. I like them. But I have them in the large wooden boxes they come in and they don't 'match' everything else on the shelf and take up more room. I made up a set of cardboard tangrams for my 4 year old, and I actually like those more since they aren't limited by what's on the board, and they get to use imagination more. Most frequently though they get dumped and spread on the floor.

I have the magnetic dress-up girl from M&D too. Is there any value in that? My 4-year old usually just dresses her up then leaves her. There's nothing realy to DO with her once she's derssed, right?

Paring down toys really makes you examine what the value of each toy is, doesn't it?

Re: If you had both these toys..

We had pattern blocks for a few years and our kids didn't limit themselves to the boards. I would keep them and encourage the kids to see what they can create with them without the boards. If after awhile they just really don't seem interested, then get rid of them.

That's not a bad idea. Ill just keep out the shape rules for now and store the boards in the box in our storage room

Oh wow. I dumped the shapes from each set into a box and within the time that I took the boards and boxes down the hall to store, she had built a castle smiley house when I returned using the shapes on the floor. Great idea!
