Random OB question

When you want to return to the same ob you've used before, do you count as a new ob patient?

I'm curious because I wonder if I'd be turned away if my ob wasn't accepting new ob patients. I guess I'm technically a current gyn patient. Just curious, I wonder about the weirdest things when I'm sleep deprived.

They would have taken me back as an old patient, but I decided to go elsewhere.

No. I have continued to go as a Gyn patient so I'm still established. I have never heard of being turned away because you are suddenly pregnant.

Re: Random OB question

I've been seeing my midwife for 8.5 years now.. I see her throughout pregnancy, for any yearly checkups, and for any other women specfic concerns. When I come in for a new pregnancy (expecting #6) I always fill out a prenatal/health/birth history and they call it a "new pregnancy," but I'm pretty sure they don't consider me a new patient since I'm seen for others reasons as well. I'd imagine it would be the same for you?

Re: Random OB question

When I returned to the same one I used for DS, I was considered a current patient not a new one.

Re: Random OB question

You should not be counted as a new patient if this doctor has delivered for your before, or even if you only had GYN services with him/her.

I had my daughter in 2001, then had a miscarriage in 2003. I went to my GP for my yearly visit (including pap every couple years). When I got pregnant in 2010, my OB/GYN took me back even though he wasn't accepting new OB patients. He actually wasn't accepting any new patients at all and I was his only OB patient. (He retired shortly after DS was born.)

At my OBGYN office, as long as you've been seen within 2 yrs you are not considered a new patient.
