Progesterone delaying AF?

This month my Dr put me on Prometrium because of a LP defect. I took it until the evening of 13dpo which was Wednesday night. I'm now 17dpo and still no AF and all BFN's. I've had no spotting and a few pms symptoms a couple days back but nothing now. I've heard Progesterone can delay AF but by this much?? My dr said I should get my period a couple days after I stop it but it's been more than 3 days now. It's definitely messing with my head because my LP was also shorter and I always had spotting for quite a few days before my period.

Yes, progesterone absolutely delays AF. That is exactly how the second half of your cycle works - higher progesterone - no period, progesterone drop - you get your period. Yeah, it can take an extra day or two longer than the doc expected because it isn't an exact science. Maybe your own progesterone was a little higher than previous months, so with the supplemental, it lasted a few days longer than predicted. It will come if you're not pregnant. Sucks to wait though.

Re: Progesterone delaying AF?

I take Prometrium from time to time to induce periods (PCOS) and sometimes it can take up to 2 weeks for AF to arrive after stopping the progesterone.

it depends on the person. some it starts a period within 2 days of stopping and others it takes weeks. you may be better off on a smaller dose or trying b6 to lengthen if its causing that much of a delay. by all means tho you will most likely need progesterone once you confirm pregnancy as if you tend to be low, this could cause miscarriage if not taken by 8-10dpo.

Thanks for the info everyone. AF ended up showing yesterday So that was a relief. I did buy some b6 since I know it can be helpful too. Is it supposed to be taken every day or just after ovulation?

Re: Progesterone delaying AF?

I take B6 every day. 50mg in the AM and 50 in the PM.
