Aubrey was no so popular when we chose it in 2010 ha. Delaney would have been Declan had she been a boy. I'm amazed it had gotten so popular.

Yep this is very true. My husband is a Joshua born in 1988. There were almost 40,000 Joshua's born that year. Nowadays even the #1 most popular name is rarely over 10,000.

It seems like the way to go if you don't want your kid to be one of many is to shoot for classic names. Katherine (my future DD's probable name) may be number 61 in 2011, but I have met MAYBE two young Katherines in the past five years. If you combined all the -lyn and -lan and -lynns, the Bray- and Jay- and Cay-s, they probably outnumber the Katherines and Julians and Marys and Michelles several times over.

Dh wants to name the new baby Arya if it is a girl. I love the name too, but am so scared that it will skyrocket to the top of the list. I am pushing for the close alternative Ilia instead.

Boy names, I have no clue. I love Atticus, but that would be a bit silly of a choice given our DS is named Cian.

Phew! DD's name is not on the rising popularity list. However, her name is more popular than I ever thought. It's ranked 81st most popular in her birth year; more popular than Sara and Jennifer. I never would have guessed. Now all I need is a celebrity to name her child with the same name.

I feel the same way about my second DD name, Paisley. I have liked the name since before it was in baby name books and just saw last night that it was #195 in 2011, which is the year she was born. I was so angry, lol. Her middle name is Larue so if it keeps get to popular she will be called Larue (la-rue), the doc office always thinks it Laurie.

anyway my older dd is Avalon and we are trying to think of a good name for this next one, we find out the week before Christmas boy or girl.

Oh yes, those names stay in the top but I agree the name really exploded 5-8 years ago because that is exactly how old all the Madison's I know are. My 5 year old niece is Madison and there are 4 others in her kindergarten class.

I've never even heard the name Declan. Maybe it's because I live in the sticks....but I DO like it very much!
