Stinky wool covers! Help!
New to cloth. Using GMD's organic unbleached prefolds.
At night, thin GMD wool doubler. Wool covers: Disana knit pullon, 1 Babee Greens wool snap on, and 1 wool Stacinator. I loved them. Then I washed in Eucalan wool wash and lanolized (seemed like too heavily even tho I followed directions - 1tsp lanolin in sinkful of hot water, maybe too much bc they got kinda slimy a bit to the touch even after dry). They took forever to dry (like 3 days on a flat drying rack). Of course I followed the whole procedure to the letter with squeezing out in a towel, etc etc. Now? They STINK after DS wears them. I'm bummed bc I loved the wool before I washed them! |

Re: Stinky wool covers! Help!
What do they smell like? Do your diapers stink? If it's just sheepy smelling, well that's how it smells. You can use a scented wash, which I do, if it bothers you. You really can't ever use too much lanolin imo. The sticky feeling will go away quickly. To speed up drying throw them in the washer on spin cycle.

Re: Stinky wool covers! Help!
Do they stink after they've dried? If they just smell when wet that's usually fine. Also, I like to lanolize new covers twice. It seems to help get them super waterproof.

Re: Stinky wool covers! Help!
The smell is much more than sheepy. Sheepy I can handle.
It is ammonia-awful deep smelling mixed with sheepy. Yes, even when dry they smell, although not AS intense. I'll rinse again today and spin them out in the dryer. Good idea. Good to know about the stickiness going away. I thought I crazy over-lanolized. Thank you ladies. |
