Pay for babysitting/daycare

I am going to watch a 2 year old at my house for 6 hrs a day, 3 days a week. His mom is providing food and diapers. Is $80/wk reasonable?

ETA also, what kinds of things do we need to clarify? Like protocol for when either her son or my DD is sick? What else? She is not a close friend, more of an acquaintance, so I want to make sure we have everything clarified.

$80 for 18 hours is $4.4 an hour. $100 is 5.5 an hour. Those amounts sound low to me so I'd check craigslist for some comps. I would definitely be crystal clear on what day you expect to be paid and how much, otherwise you are likely to be disappointed.

Re: Pay for babysitting

Thanks for the suggestion, just checked craigslist and did some googling. It is definitely low for "babysitting," but average/high for daycare. Regular non-preschool daycare is around $75 a week here with meals included. At-home daycares (lots on post...we are military) around $3/hr. So I guess that sounds reasonable to me!

Wow...wish I lived where you do! Daycare is about $50 a day here.

IMO, $80 is super cheap for 3 days a week. Make sure you aren't selling yourself and your time short. She should remember that he will be getting much lower ratio care since he is your only daycare kid, vs. a center/in home with lots of kids.

I would clarify that
she provides a harnessed carseat (not a booster) that can be permanently installed in your car so you don't have to swap out at drop off/pickup and risk a less than stellar installation
her position on discipline/timeout/spanking
any allergies
vaccinations if you care
that you are allowed to drive her child
her feelings on outings to story time/parks/errands
if you are paid on days he isn't there because she took a vacation
who you can call if for whatever reason no parent shows up
how hard she wants you to push eating at meals (clean your plate vs. take what you want)
what day you are paid
whether you are to be paid in cash only or how you want to handle taxes, how much TV he is allowed to watch in your care
potty training arrangements

That souncs reasonable. With my sitter we pay if for some reason my dd doesn't go. If the sitter cancels we don't pay. Make sure you work out day of payment and form of payment. When I did daycare I was given some bad checks.

Great list above for concerns... I would also add napping schedules/flexibility with down time, parenting on rough play, etc....

I would also raise your price a bit. Daycare here is $40/day, so at minimum I'd charge $100 a week.
