Re: Anyone else have a hard time getting ssn for baby?
with my one son who was born at home without a legal MW, I just had to 1st get a birth certificate from the health dept (he didn't have to see anyone, he didn't go to a ped until he was 3 or 4). XH and I had to sign a paper saying he was born at home. Then we took the birth certificate to our local social sec office and they mailed one to us. With my other homebirth, the MW's filled everything out and we got it in a timely manner. Same for my hospital births. (and ftr, I had NO immunization records for any of them)

We had a home birth but had no issues. At my 2 day MW appt she showed us the birth certificate/ssn application. I made sure the little box requesting the ssn was checked. We got the SS card around 8 weeks. Did u see the application before it was sent out? Hope you get it all worked out! Good luck!
Probably typing one handed while breastfeeding. My smartphone can't fix it all.

Re: Anyone else have a hard time getting ssn for baby?
Just an update, DH went back and got it all squared away. Out of curiosity he asked what would happen if we didn't have insurance or we didn't vaccinate. They said we'd basically be out of luck and she would not get a ssn until she was older. They do not consider a birth certificate as proof of anything. We're hoping to get the number and card before the end of the year so we can open a savings accounts and get the tax benefits.

Re: Anyone else have a hard time getting ssn for baby?
I didn't have a homebirth either, but it took 3 years to get my sons ssn. That included about 32 visits to the ssn office itself, numerous phone calls between the ssn, hospital, and OB. It was ridiculous.
