Re: my carseats expiring
Depends on how much money I was in the mood to spend, how fancy I wanted the car seat, how picky I was on color... and the vehicle.
In my state, children must be 40 lbs to ride in a booster, so that narrows it down to harnessed seats only. On the low end, I'd get an Evenflo Maestro. It's quite inexpensive and will do the job nicely. If I wanted a cushier car seat for more money, I'd get the Britax Frontier 85. A child that small certainly doesn't need the high capacity (assuming no special needs that would require him to be in a harness until age 12 or something), but I do like the Frontier. |

Re: my carseats expiring
Some sort of harness to booster seat. Kids have to be harnessed here until 40lbs, so probably the graco nautilus. The frontier is kinda overkill for a 5 year old that's so tiny, mine outweighs yours by about 15lbs and is about 6-7 inches taller, and she was only just 5 in October, and she has plenty of room to grow in her nauti. The nauti is less expensive, but still has a good high harness height and weight, and converts to both a good highback and backless booster seat. However, in Canada I don't have some of the options you do in the US, the Maestro only goes to like 47lbs here, and many of the other combination seats you have down there don't exist here.

Re: my carseats expiring
Nautilus gets my vote too. My 35lb 4.5 year old has tons of room in hers to be harnessed for a long time, plus it worked great as a booster for my DS til he was really tall. He preferred it over the other, smaller, dedicated boosters.

Re: my carseats expiring
The evenflo secure kid is another good option. Harnessed seat and then boosters after. Not to terribly expensive either.

Budget choice: evenflo maestro
Splurge: Britax Frontier 85 or Recaro Prosport. I LOVE the Prosport.

Re: my carseats expiring
Walmart has the Evenflo SecureKid 400 listed for $119 right now.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Evenflo-Se...wford/19414748 If you'll be using LATCH (in your car or in others), this is definitely worth considering. The SureLatch is a really handy feature, especially for a tiny older child who might need a car seat that's almost as easy to move from car to car as a booster would be. It makes it easy for even car-seat-challenged people to install. |

Re: my carseats expiring
well i got my 5 year old a complete air so i could RF to 40 lbs. if you dont want to RF then go with a nautilus, that's what he's in now. although one thing i do not like is its very hard even for me to unbuckle. ds2 is 7 and he cant buckle or unbuckle himself in it

Re: my carseats expiring
I would personally get a Maestro or a Nautilus to buy me a year or so til kiddo could booster.
My 42" almost 6 year old fits fine in our Maestro.

I LOVE the SecureKid 400. DNe rides in one. Super easy install and he loves riding in that seat.
