Should he go?

If your DS's 3-day fever broke in the evening and he had a birthday party to go to the following afternoon, would you let him go? FWIW, he's a new kid today and you'd never have guessed he'd even been sick so I'm pretty sure the fever won't be returning.

If he stays fever-free with NO meds, I'd send him to the party. If he needs meds to stay fever-free, then no, he has to stay home.

I would ask the parents of the birthday child, just to give a heads up. I'd want to be informed so I can make that decision.

This. The flu is going around here really bad right now, though.
