Fess-up: who's SO isn't the greatest gift giver?
I love DH to pieces, but gift giving just isn't his strong suit. I swear he has lots of great qualities to make up for it though. This year I finally caved and gave him a list of gift suggestions for me. I felt bad doing it, like I was cheating or something. But over the years I've learned that his idea of a thoughtful gift is wandering the mall in the days before Christmas hoping he finds something good. And grumbling about it before, during, and after.
To be fair, I am picky. I hate having lots of "stuff" and the things I truly need I already have. I also hate knowing he paid full price when a little price comparison or online shopping would save lots (or even used items on CL). But even though I'm picky, he struggles with gift giving for anyone. He blames that I don't want anything (which is fairly true), that he doesn't have enough time to shop, and that malls don't have anything good on Christmas eve. Oy! Yes, he is one of those guys in the final hours before closing time sometimes. So fess up, who else has a SO that you'd love to see put a little more effort and thought into gifts? Anyone get something that made you scratch your head and wonder why they picked it? I love the homemade things he's done, but the calendars and corny hats I could do without. If you give suggestions, what do you request? |

Me! DH is "thoughtful" in his gifts, but I sometimes just look at him like do you even know me? I got floor mats from my car one year for Christmas, another an ironing board cover. He also has a habit of "giving" me gifts I have to pick out or schedule a time to get and magically it never happens.

Me! Hubby asked yesterday "are we doing gifts for each other?" So I said yea. "Have you gotten me anything?" Yes, 3 under the tree. "Gees! I was hoping I didn't have to rush around trying to find you something." Poor guy! Isn't the whole idea having fun hunting down the right gift???

Should this be in Off topic??
My DH sucks as well. I have to drop a lot of hints and basically tell him what I want/need. There are so many things I need and if I don't let him know, then he will just go and buy me a piece of jewellery. Which is nice, but meh. I don't wear a lot of jewellery very often.

Mine! We've been doing stockings only for the past 5 years and last year my stocking was empty. He was like "oh, are we still doing that". Then he went out after Christmas and spent a ridiculous amount on a necklace. I don't think he'll make that mistake again, and this year he finally asked me for ideas.

I am the SO that sucks at gift giving! I just don't know what to get him! I got lucky this year and we are only doing kid gifts.

I am embarrassed to say that I do all of my own Christmas shopping. He isn't great at picking stuff and couple that with a wife who has control issues :/ and well... It's a real shame because I do like surprises but the thought of him overspending for something or not getting free shipping or not using a coupon code- ahhhh it's too much!! I need help

Mine and I don't care at all. I buy all my own gifts for birthday and christmas. My V-day and anniversary I usually tell him a few ideas and he gets it.

Re: Fess-up: who's SO isn't the greatest gift giver?
My husbands asks me every year what I want, so I tell him. And then he gets me something totally different. And I give him a list of half a dozen things. Sometimes it's not specific, but I'll give some examples. For instance, one year I told him I wanted a jewelry box in a specific style and I have him some links to several in that style. I had a few other things on the same list (books, kitchen gadjets, crafting stuff, etc) and he bought me a portable hard drive. For the record, I have never asked for anything electronic or technological. The hard drive is now used for the Wii.
