Re: Single mothers by choice

My son is just starting to talk and has started ( just lately) calling me " daddy"... Not sure whether to make a big deal about correcting him or not. He used to call me "mum" before.

I admire single mothers by choice. It's a hard enough job to raise a child with your significant other. I can't imagine doing it on my own.

Re: Single mothers by choice

Me me! I'll be a single mother by choice. I'm 27, single, a small business owner, and am in the process of adopting a little girl (0-2 age) from Ethiopia. Was raised by a single mother and excited to be a single mother- not intimidated by it. Still would love to marry one day- but for now- mama hood is the next part of my life journey- not marriage!

I'm a single mom by circumstance but am very supportive of single mothers by choice! You may someday meet someone that can join your little family! Having supportive parents is wonderful too! Good luck!!!!!

Re: Single mothers by choice

I hate the label "Single Mother by Choice". My first choice would have been meeting and marrying Mr. Right before having kids with him. But he proved to be rather elusive, so I went the donor route. I used a sperm bank donor who is willing to be found by the kiddos when they turn 18. He is required to keep his contact info up to date, so I hope he does. I think he will have the shock of his life when the first pair of offspring (twins) find him, as we have close to 40 in our mom group (so far), all from the same donor (we found each other online). My son will be 16 and my daughter 13 when the first kids turn 18, so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

I have friends who have to share their kids with exes, or who have unsupportive husbands who leave them to do the majority of the child-related stuff. They all think I made the right choice to do it alone. I never felt that it was a choice. Be childless or use a donor? Of course I'll choose a donor!

Incidentally, I have "Nan's Donut Dilemma", and I have issues with the donuts. My kids don't eat crap food like that, so I don't need their books pushing it. Otherwise, it's a very nice story.
