convertable longies?

I need ideas/ a pattern for concertable longies. You know..longies that the leg unbuttons and they are shorties. Can I just knit to an inch or so before the desired shortie length and add a button row and cuff then knit the rest of the legs? Any ideas appreciated!

or you can knit an eyelet row and make a drawstring, like these:

Re: convertable longies?

I have knit lots of pairs... and even though the buttons are cute, I prefer the icord. If baby crawls/ walks/climbs they could crawl on the button and hurt their little leggies..

Oh, um, oops. This is what I do, not a button row. For some reason I was just reading it as a row with holes, which is what an eyelet row is lol
