Tips for Mail carrier and UPS driver?

Is it appropriate to give tips to your mail carrier and UPS driver? If so, what do you consider a good tip?

I think I just heard that you are not supposed to give your mail carrier cash. I don't give anything to either. Our mail carrier is fairly unreliable and we don't have many deliveries from ups & fedex.

Postal employees may accept gifts valued up to $20, but cannot accept cash, according to a postal spokeswoman.

Gift cards of up to $20 are also permitted, but the card cannot be redeemable for cash money and must be issued from a single company, not from a bank or shopping mall. Liquor and wine are also prohibited, according to USPS.

That's interesting that a Federal employee is able to accept gifts. I'm a government worker and definitely cannot accept any type of gifts.

We always used to - our mail lady was wonderful. Now that we moved, we have one of those communal boxes and never actually see our mail carrier.

Our UPS - eh, I used to date him. Giving a xmas gift would be WAY past awkward. lol Even getting parcels is more of a "here's your stuff, see ya!" and a fast getaway back down my driveway! lol

I've never tipped them. I do bake cookies for the mail man and put them in the mailbox with the flag up during the holiday season with a thank you note!

Our neighbor is our old mailman, he said boxes of chocolate per wrapped are good too. If you know then well you could go homemade goodies, but I would not do that unless they know you will not poison them. That said I do not give anything to our current mail lady, but take goodies to our old mailman and his wife that we are friends with.
