Re: Did you need a 40 lb limit to RF until age 4?

You can easily tell what percentage of kids in the US would need a 40# seat to RF to age 4 by checking a growth chart.

Let's say that in order to make it to age 4 in a seat without a 35# RF weight limit, the kid should weigh no more than 34# on their 4th birthday (to account for clothes, and that most parents don't want to push the limits too much). 34# is slightly above the 25th percentile for girls, so a little more than 25% of girls (maybe 35%?) will make it to age 4 RF in a seat with a 35# RF weight limit. For boys, 34# is right at the 25th percentile, so about 25% of boys will make it to age 4 RF in a seat with a 35# RF weight limit.

Nope, but my kids are small and lightweight.

DD is 5y3.5m and 36lbs.
DS is 3y5.5m and 27lbs.

We would need a 50lb rearfacing seat for DD. She's 3y7.5m, 44lbs and 43". She hit 40 before 3. DS is smaller, so should make it to three.

Re: Did you need a 40 lb limit to RF until age 4?

DS has already been turned front facing, but he's 34 lbs at not quite 2 1/2 and I expect DD to follow in the same growth curve since she's 20+ at 7 mo so we will probably need the higher weight limit if we rf her longer than we did DS.

Nope. DD hit 35 right about her 4th birthday. DS (adopted) is 3.75 and 33 pounds. DD is 22 pounds at almost 2, so not thinking she is going to need it either.

My seat of choice is the True Fit Premier.

Re: Did you need a 40 lb limit to RF until age 4?

No.

My oldest is 7.5 and 40lbs fully dressed.

DD2 is almost 6 and she's 33 lbs.

DS is 3.5 and he's 22 lbs.

My girls are very long-torsoed, though, so they needed tall seats. As it were, they grew out of their seats (Radian, Complete Air) before 4.
