Re: Did you need a 40 lb limit to RF until age 4?

Yes (?)
Ds1 was about 30lbs at 1yr and 50 shortly after 5yrs. I'm not sure, but thinking yes.
Ds2 is about 32lbs at 26 months. His seat RF to 35lbs which by growth charts may get us another few months so I'm guessing 2 1/2 to 35lbs.

DS was 42 lbs before his 3rd birthday. Now that he is 4 we think he is about 45 lbs. He is just taller now. So I would need something that went to 50 lbs.

Re: Did you need a 40 lb limit to RF until age 4?

My son hit 35 lbs at 18 months. So yes I would have needed the 40lb seat just to RF past about 2 because that's when he slowed down growing. At his 4th birthday he was about 45 lbs and now at 4 1/2 he's 48. So he grew really big really fast and then slowed way down. He's tall too though, so we had as much issue getting a high enough harness height as we did a weight limit.

I don't think so. Dd is 4.5 and 35lbs. Ds is 2 and 28lbs. Height is my kids' issue mostly.

Depends on how big you grow your kids. DS2 is 39 lbs and will be 3 next month. He's not fat, just huge for his age. My other kids are big too, but not like him.

Nope. My almost 6 year old is only 35 lbs. She also has a very short torso.

Yeah we've got a 27 lb almost 3 year old & a 24 lb 12 month old so we've got very opposite ends of the spectrum.

No and no, higher. lol My daughter will be 5 in a few weeks and weighs 32lbs. So no, we didn't.

My son is a little past 3 and a half. He's 43lbs undressed. So 40lbs wouldn't help. He would need 45lb limit or more. He is now FFing because he's close, clothing adds a little weight, and I didn't want to push it too close.
