***Giving toddler coconut oil???

Ds 3.5 and dd 2.5....do any of u give your kids straight coconut oil for its health benefits? If so how much do u give them? Thanks

I like this question.

I 'take' a 1/2 tsp of Spectrum unrefined organic coconut oil once every week. When I had my cholesterol checked last month for insurance, my good cholesterol was 90....double what is considered ideal! The pharmacist checking It said he had never seen good cholesterol that high all my chol levels were good too.

I don't know about giving to children, though. Maybe a tsp a month wouldn't hurt.

I haven't thought to give coconut oil to them straight, but I have put a little bit in their oatmeal on occasion. I've also been using it for cooking sometimes and have also used it for skin irritations.

Sure, why not? It's not like you can really overdose on coconut oil...there's only so much you're going to want to eat anyway. Coconut oil is super healthy for anyone and everyone. I use it a lot in cooking and add it to smoothies and tea and hot chocolate. I also make rice with coconut cream and give it to my toddler and a bit to the baby. I also feed my kids liver, cod liver oil, and fermented foods for probiotics. And butter It's amazing what kids will eat when you just hand it to them as a baby and don't tell them that it tastes "bad". hehe.

We don't do it "straight," but I frequently spread coconut oil on toast, bagels, etc. for my toddlers.

Its really the only oil we cook with so its in lots of things here since I also replace butter with it. We also love it in hot chocolate. YUM.
