When to use vinegar in wash routine?

For those who use it, where does it fit into your wash routine? During the first wash w/o soap, the second wash w soap, or during the extra rinse at the end?
Oh, and how much do you use and do there seem to be any negative results from using vinegar?
Thanks!

I just put it in the fabric softener compartment when I start the actual wash cycle.

Re: When to use vinegar in wash routine?

I started using it because I was having ammonia problems with my dipes. So I put 1/2 to 1 cup in my prewash, and then filled the fabric softner compartment with it because I found it left my dipes softer.

Vinegar is supposed to help breakdown and left behind detergent. I have a downy ball that I fill up and throw in when I start the load and then it is dispersed in the rinse cycle.

I use in the prewash cold rinse. I thought it was just to help with ammonia stink? Ever since I started using it I have had no ammonia stinkies! I use about a cup.

Re: When to use vinegar in wash routine?

Laundry wise I found it worked best to put it in the prewash VS finial rinse. Unfortunally I can't use it at all it gives my baby nasty nasty rashes no matter when I add it.

Re: When to use vinegar in wash routine?

I've heard that if you use vinegar, you have to follow up with baking soda in next cycle to bring ph to a friendly level. Is this true?

We have very very VERY soft water and it's wreaking havoc with our sensitive FL'er. I keep getting error messages and incomplete cycles. The repair guy showed me the pile of soap suds in the bottom of the washer, even after 2 rinse cycles w/o soap. He recommended using vinegar from time to time and since we do get ammonia, I figured I would do it with the dipes. Thanks for the responses!!
