Flats Question

I was planning on doing mostly flats and covers for baby. I'd prefer to use flats and covers over my pockets. I have 12 pockets so I'm thinking about adding 6 covers to that. Enough, right? I'll probably add more once baby is here but I didn't want to do a full on out stash before finding out what fits this babe. I just wanted enough to start with, with my OS stash.

I was thinking though, if I use my flats the most and I'm also going to be using them for things like changing baby on and spit up rags should I get more than the 24 I was planning on? Maybe I am over thinking a simple thing but baby brain is completely turning this into a big deal to me. lol

What do you think?

I preffered 3 dozen flats because I could use them elsewhere and leave them in the diaperbag with out hurting my regular stash. And you can wash a lot of flats in a load. I also only padfolded with a newborn even so a dozen covers was my number. So I would plan on getting more covers later. I always got Poo on covers, even when I fastened. Also fleece liners grab Poo better and kept messes in place for me better.

Re: Flats Question

Are you talking about whether you have enough for the newborn stage? I assume your pocket are OS, are you covers?

24 flats for a newborn will only work if you are planning on washing everyday. Usually 3 or 4 covers per flat/prefold is recommend if you are pinning or snappi on so that would be fine. If you are pad folding it's probably not enough -- though if your pockets are small/newborn you could use them as covers, just don't stuff the pocket and put them on!

Re: Flats Question

Yea my newborn stash is complete and separate from this. I'm talking about my OS stash. I just want enough to get me through a day and decide what to buy after that when I see what fits baby or not. My babies tend to be small and skinny but I want to make sure this one is too before I buy a complete stash for a skinny baby, lol. I'm just trying to figure out if I should get more than 24 for a days worth. I don't mind washing daily but I am hoping I have enough for the day plus spit up rags and what not. I am def. buying more in the future I just want enough flats to start out. If that makes sense?

Re: Flats Question

yeah i'd say you are good then. If you really don't feel like using the pockets, as i said before, use them as covers if needed until you get it figure out. I'd say you know what you are doing and shouldn't second guess. Good Luck!

Re: Flats Question

I did flats and covers for my little girl. I started with 18 flats and 6 covers, which is a really bare minimum stash. I supplemented with a dozen prefolds, and ended up buying two more covers.
