WWYD: toddler w/ possible uti

My dd is 20 months, and potty trained really easily over the last week. He has been accident 95% accident free.

She has also been crying that she needs to pee, then sitting down and crying while holding her vuvla, and straining, and then stands up and she's only squeezed out a few drops of pee. Sh: been crying non-stop for three hours, going back and forth to the toilet with only a tiny amount of pee.

I'm pretty sure she has a uti. Should I take her to an ER tonight bc everything else is closed? Or take her to urgent care first thing in the morning? I'm stranded at home until my DH gets off work at 9:30 tonight.

Oh poor baby. I would try to take her as soon as possible. Is she drinking?

I would call your ped after hours number immediately and do whatever he/she tells you.

I'd probably take her in. My dd had a uti when she was a just over 2, the only reason I knew was because she had a 104 fever and I couldn't figure out why. I took her to urgent care and they asked for a urine sample, sure enough, she had a uti. I'd also give her some tylenol to help with the pain.

I would take her in. UTI's are painful.

Does she have a fever? If not, I'd try some other treatment options before taking her in. Antibiotics do have side effects. grapeseed extract, cranberry chewable tablets, yogurt, etc can all be tried. I wouldn't give her tylenol because it gets in the way of her body trying to fight the infection. But I'm sure that some would think I'm a terrible parent for saying that. Generally I try to let the body work to fight something before resorting to medical attention. I don't think it's an urgent care matter, personally.

Re: WWYD: toddler w/ possible uti

When my 7 yr old was complaining that his penis hurt, and it hurt to pee, we took him to urgent care (it was either a Sunday or a Holiday, I don't remember which). They said it was urethraitis (basically similar to a urinary track infection) he felt better within 2 days of taking the medicine.

UTIs are painful and if left untreated can turn into bladder infections. I would take her in today if you didn't take her last night.

God bless!

Thanks ladies!

She settled into a good sleep last night and I let her sleep. Will be taking her to urgent care this morning. :-)
