it came out during a project management training class - we were talking about breaking something down, materials needed, etc. the instructor used the pbj example and was SHOCKED by the crazy responses. One knife, two, spoons, bowls... We had every kind of answer including a strict two-knife user due to allergies in the house - and my friend the bowl mixer. She still gets teased over a year later!Personally I do jelly first, wipe on the other piece of bread, then pb. I have this thing with minimizing the number of utensils i use..

Re: Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich
PB first, one knife
I put PB on one slice of bread, scrape the excess off on the "clean" slice so I have a pretty clean knife and then put jelly on the slice with just a smidge of PB. I don't like having the PB contaminated with jelly because I do not refrigerate the PB and I'm convinced the the little bit of jelly in the PB jar will make the world fall down around me or something equally catastrophic

Re: Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich
I always take my spoon to the jelly jar and 'break' it all up by stabbing it and swirling the top of the jelly all around, and then get a spoonful and it spreads suuuuper easy that way.

Re: Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich
First, I gag. Because that's how much I dislike PB&J.
I use a knife for the PB on one slice and a spoon/rubber spatula to put preserves on the other slice. I don't want to risk 'cross contamination'.

Re: Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich
I will be an oddball here. We don't do PB&J sandwiches. We eat lots of PB sandwiches. We eat the rare jelly (ours is really homemade jam) sandwiches. But never together. For PB we use 1 knife, for jam we use 1 spoon.

1 knife, jelly first wipe it on the other side to clean it off and then do pb.

Re: Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich
Other, I don't like jelly it tastes gross. So my PB&J sandwiches are actually only PB and obviously I only need one knife for that. I only eat Peter Pan creamy peanut butter, all other kinds taste weird and I don't care if that brand is bad for me (I buy the natural or the honey flavor). I actually can't eat PB anymore as it makes me sick so this is all a moot discussion. I will occasionally buy almond or cashew butter and make sandwiches or put it on a warm bagel.
