Breastfeeding while pregnant, weight gain

If you BF while pregnant, how did your weight gain differ than with your first child? I've lost a pound. I know I'm still early in this pregnancy, but I'm starting to wonder if this will be a trend and how my weight gain will differ this time around.

OB will encourage me to stop BF'ing.

Battling IF again as we TTC another Femara miracle.

Re: Breastfeeding while pregnant, weight gain

Mine didn't differ at all. I usually lose about 10 pounds in the first tri, then gain 20-30 pounds back.I've lost 11 pounds so far so I may exceed that this time. My OB is encouraging me to quit also and said that it will take away from baby in utero. I know people do it all the time and have healthy babies though. I think our bodies take over and milk dries up if baby isn't getting enough. If you're worried, eat more? protein, calcium, for sure.

I gained about the same amount, but I started out heavier. Yay, me. Baby was 1.5 lbs smaller, though (he was 7 lbs 1 oz; DD was 8 lbs 9 oz).

Re: Breastfeeding while pregnant, weight gain

I have breast fed through 2 pregnancies. (total of 3 babies). Gained the same with each (about 35-40 lbs).

DD1 (no nursing during) 7.7
DD2 9.3
DD3 8.7

Take care of yourself, eat and drink enough and read Adventures In Tandem Nursing, even if you don't think you'll want to tandem.

I gained less (35 lbs) but started out heavier as well. I only nursed until 30 wks pg but started nursing DS again after DD was born.

I've been wondering this too, I am 18 weeks pregnant and still nursing my 15 month old. so far I've only gained 9lbs, where as with my DD by now I had gained somewhere between 15-20 lbs, so definitely different. I wonder where I'll end up.

Re: Breastfeeding while pregnant, weight gain

I had hG in all 3 of my pregnancies so lost about 25 lbs before 20ish weeks all 3 times. I gain very quickly after 20 weeks though. With my first I was 56 lbs over my pre pregnancy weight when I was induced at 39 weeks. With my second about 28 lbs over my pre pregnancy weight when she was born at 42 weeks and my 3rd 24 lbs over my pre preg weight at 39 weeks. I had pre e with my first though and I would say the majority of my weight was fluid and swelling.

Re: Breastfeeding while pregnant, weight gain

During my last pregnancy, I nursed dd for the first 4 + months but only at night. I lost weight, without any morning sickness. I also seemed more tired, but that could be contributed to age and 3 other kids running around too.

I only gained during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy this time.
