Christmas baking!

If you're gifting edibles this year, what are you making?
Have you started yet?
How many baskets/boxes are you making?

I have 10 gift baskets and 2 platters to make. I've been in the kitchen all day.

So far I've done:
one batch of chewy caramels (never again)
pretzel/chocolate/caramel/pecan turtles
pecan pie date balls
minty oreo marshmallow treats
8 dozen sugar cookies
gingerbread spiced rice crispies treats

I still need to make:
8+ dozen chocolate chip/walnut cookies
white chocolate/cranberry cookies
caramel stuffed chocolate cookies
brownies
blondies
coconut bars

Re: Christmas baking!

I have to make some of those turtle tonight, and for xmas I am making chewy caramels too. I hope they turn out the first time, this time. My mom always requests english toffee, so I'll be making that too. I just need to find one more fun thing to try out.

This is one of the only good things about having a ginormous family. Everyone only has to make a few things.

Wow! I'm totally wishing I was on your gift list.

I will bake cookies with ds on Friday. Probably just sugar cookies and gingerbread. Ds likes to do cutout cookies.

I'm totally lame and gifting puppy chow. My dd's preschool teachers are each getting a christmas tin with puppy chow and my other dd's teachers are getting a handmade stocking (made by her) with a bag of puppy chow. I am just not wanting to bake a gazillion types of cookies. Plus we do GF and no way am I spending all that money on making cookies. Yikes

It's a long story, but we have DS1 off of his GF diet temporarily right now and this will likely be the last year I can do normal cookies. I usually do ALL cookies and quick breads, but I'm trying out more candies this year because that's all I'll be able to do in future years unless, like you said, I wanna spend an arm and a leg on GF ingredients for other people.

Well, it's not much of a recipe.
I dumped a package of (Aldi brand) oreos in my food processor and pulsed until they were all broken up; my largest pieces were about the size of one of my finger nails. I melted half a stick of butter in the microwave and added a bag of (also Aldi brand) marshmallows and nuked for 2 or 3 more minutes, until the marshmallows were all melted and smooth, then added about a teaspoon of peppermint extract. Add the oreos and mix, then pour into a greased 8x8 pan.
If you're gifting these, get MANY packages of oreos and marshmallows. The first batch probably won't survive your family and one batch yields about 16 2"x2"x1/2" squares.

I haven't started my baking yet, but I did all my canning already. I did Concord grape jam, blackberry jam, blackberry jelly, blackberry apple jam, apple jelly, caramel apple jelly and brown sugar pancake syrup.

Baking is coming up this week. I'm looking at caramels (I have an awesomely easy recipe for chewy caramels if you want it, OP), a couple of batches of fudge, my great grandmother's butterscotch crispies, Russian tea cakes, soda cracker bars and maybe some sugar cookies for the kids to decorate.
