Try giving him a complex b vitamin. I suffered from chapped lips for a long time and once i started taking bvitamins, they healed and happen much less frequently.

Thanks for all the awesome advice ladies! I'll get some vaseline and/or carminex. If it doesn't clear up within the next day or two I'll take him to the pediatrician to have it looked at.

It IS looking better today, the scabs have all come off, there is only one small spot that was bleeding. So still swollen, but over all a lot better.

Thanks again!! I knew I could count on DS for a lot of good advice!

It looks like she ended up treating it with Bactrim (did I get that right?) to help with the infection.

My daughter has had this problem in the past and the best thing ever is Lanolin!! I am not kidding you...that stuff works miracles! You will see a noticeable difference in a day or two.

Eta, I have found that the Lansinoh brand works the best...Medela is too thin, IMO.

Most lip balms you can buy in the store are terrible. They actually cause dependence on them. I used to be totally addicted to lip balm. Couldn't go more than 1/2 hour without putting it on. Then I switched to a handmade, natural one. I could go days without it after a while! Now that it's winter and I'm pregnant, I need it more often, but I still love my natural lip balm!

When we begin getting chapped lips, my favorite is EOS lip balm. It really turns our lips around, doesn't taste bad, and once it is applied, it stays on for a long time.

ETA: When I put some on right before bed, I still feel it on my lips when I wake up.
