FASC YYMN ?
Sorry if this is the wrong place, but I'm not a WAHM knitter nor do I want to be.
![]() Tonight we went over to dh's cousin's house and I was finishing up a small FASC. She wants one and asked how much I would charge to make one. I kind of skirted the issue since I know most people would think they are super $$$, not knowing the quality of good hand dyed wool yarn and the work involved in knitting one. I finally threw out $50. That's only $25 for about 25 hours of labor(yeah, I'm slow), and $25 for good wool yarn. A great deal, I think. She was shocked and of course declined. Well, she asked. What is the going charge for one? I know a lot of people charge around $0.17 a yard, which would be about $42 for labor alone. Total of $62ish. Dh think $30 is acceptable. Um, no, I'm not making something like that for someone I don't particularly like for $5 for 25 hours of time. Ugh. I'd rather gift it, but honestly, not to her. ![]() She would be shocked to know the large handspun FASC I also had with me would retail at around $240. ![]() Advertisement |

Re: FASC YYMN ?
I don't know but really!?!? She was shocked at $50 for a hand made shawl.
Does she even buy her own clothes? |

I have a large that was probably close to $120-140 and it was a yfw swap so way cheaper than a knitter would actually charge, $50 is unreasonable and $30 is insulting!

Re: FASC YYMN ?
Some people really don't value the time and love put into hand made things. For that reason alone I wouldn't want to knit for her

Re: FASC YYMN ?
Yeah, I'm just honest with people. They need to know that it's not cheap. You work hard and spend money on good yarn. Why should you have to make so little when you're crafting?? I just tell people right now I barely have time to knit for my own kids, let alone anyone else!

Re: FASC YYMN ?
At least $100 for the knitting. I made a couple of full size ones for Christmas presents and they were easily 40 hours each. I don't think I'm super slow, but you have to pay attention to what you're doing.
