How to write a resume after being a SAHM for 10 yrs- Help Needed!!

I am needing to write a resume... I used to have one when I worked, that's before kids.

I have been home for a decade!! I am needing to get a part time job for supplemental income. We homeschool our children, so I would like to work only 1-3 day/nights a week.

I am stumped and don't know where to beginI have written out the basics, summary, education, previous work experience. But I am stumped in the section of "capabilities". All of us SAHM's do so much all day long, but having trouble interpreting that into the work world.

any input?
TIA!!

Have you done any homeschooling or volunteer work? Think about what skills you used back in work world and how those have been active still.

Re: How to write a resume after being a SAHM for 10 yrs- Help Needed!!

My daughter was born in 2000 and my son was born in 2003- I have been at home the whole time, raising my children and am currently homeschooling both of them. My daughter is in 7th grade and my son is in 3rd grade.

That and the homeschooling require prep work, organization and presenting. So those are marketable skills.

I am a career counselor and one of my specialties is working with mothers returning to work. I am giving away 28 hours of service as part of a Facebook project called Give 28, to spread love and kindness in light of the tragedy at Sandy Hook. Please PM and I am happy to give you your hour. Basically, we can set up a time to chat by phone or Skype to get you started on writing your resume, and then after that we will communicate via email so that I can edit/critique your resume for you. Feel free to pass along if anyone else you know is in need of 1 free hour.

Re: How to write a resume after being a SAHM for 10 yrs- Help Needed!!

I went back to work after being home with the kids for 8 years. Sadly the resume I wrote will not be able to be used for any other job as they specifically wanted breastfeeding experiences. I am a breastfeeding peer counselor for WIC now.

I used my previous work experience and schooling of course. Then I listed my volunteer work and church teaching as that showed that I was able to work with people. I didn't want them to think that I didn't leave the house for 8 years. lol (Though it felt like it sometimes). I also listed the clearances I had through my volunteer work. Though they never asked for them. If finished the resume up with the breastfeeding information since that's something they insisted upon.
