I'm in. I tried last year and lost steam. With the hopes of moving this year we need to downsize our stuff even though we need a larger apartment. Larger as in 2 bedrooms not 1. So we will lose living space. I'm starting today. I'm excited at the prospect of having only what we use and love.

Re: 2,013 Items in 2013!

I am in. I participated for 2012 but stopped counting after a few months even though I purged sporadically all year long. For 2013, I need to be very focus and purge as much as possible because we are moving from Hawaii back to the mainland this summer. We are military, so we aren't sure where we are going yet or how much space we will have in our next place. I also hate unpacking, so I want to have as little as possible to unpack in the new place. My first 2 projects are the Christmas Decor and our storage closet.

ETA: Looks like there are a few of us moving this year.

I'm in. I meant to do last year, plus we're hoping to go into a 2 bedroom apartment from one and I hate packing and unpacking

Yay! So glad so many are interested in doing this again (whether for the first time or not). It's nice to hear the goals others have.

As for myself... I purged a LOT this year but I still have a lot to do. My house was in a great place this summer, but when my baby was born I lost steam, and things started to accumulate again.

Even more than purging, I need to stop bringing new stuff in. After DD was born, I would go shopping just to get some "me time," and walk around Target. And usually bring stuff back home with me. So this year I am vowing to be much pickier about items I purchase, as well as do my best to stick to a "one in one out" rule.

We kept adding to the thread with updates and totals. People kept track in different ways, whatever worked best for them. I usually tallied up for awhile, and then when I had a significant amount to add (or had done a large purge) then I'd post again with my updated total. But some people would comment every time they purged. Anything is totally fine!

I purged 2,920 items in 2012 and 2,014 items in 2013.
2,014 items in 2014?

I'm in! I doubt I'll make it to the 2,013 items since I've already purged so much, but it's worth a try! Going to work on purging lots Christmas decor this week.

Re: 2,013 Items in 2013!

I'm in. I followed along this year but didn't actively post.
I do good with purging and organizing, but I have a hard time getting the items from the garage to the shelter/goodwill etc. I'm going to really focus on physically taking items every week out of my house, even if it's just a small bag.
I'd like to really focus on purging bedrooms this year. I'm happy with our main living areas and even storage but our bedrooms need work. DD got rid of hundreds of things this year and I'm very proud of her. She needs a different arrangement in her room though. I'm hoping to completely re-do her room this summer. My boys like to collect small trinkets and I need a better solution to that too. DH will be building DS1 and DS2 a bunk bed and new toy box this soon so I'm excited to re-organize their room and post updates.

This is an awesome idea. I'm not sure if we'll end up moving when our lease is up in August, but we may do. I think this will be a challenge, but a great one. Now to get over the laziness and actually sell some things, rather than just donate them.

I'm in! We are moving this summer and it's my intention to seriously downsize the next home we buy. I won't make it to 2013 items because I truly doubt I even own that many items...but this will still be a great way to stay motivated! Plus I loved reading about all the successes in the 2012 thread even though I didn't participate.

Re: 2,013 Items in 2013!

I've been getting rid of clutter for months and my home is pretty clutter free, other than my closet. ugh my closet lol.

But today I got rid of about 300 items. Old baby clothing that is being given away, stuff from the pantry and kitchen cabinets, toys mikey no longer plays with, random junky items from my bathroom drawer, an infant to toddler rocker, some push toy thing, etc.
