Yay completed today's pantry goal. But I'm not done. Just taking a break while my son bounces off the wall.

I didn't count but I'm gonna guess at at least 10 items. And I put my food items in my Pyrex canisters. So I got rid of a bunch of the original packaging. Looks a ton cleaner.

Trashed a bunch of expired or I had no clue when it expired. Or I would never eat (like brown rice).

^ I try to neaten areas up as I purge them, too. Like when I did my bathroom, I was able to eliminate some packaging and tidy things up.

These challenges are a good time to reorganize, consolidate, wipe down areas that might not always get attention (like drawers, pantry shelves, etc.).

I had to make laundry detergent today. So I had to bring in 2 items. Boo. But I got the detergent made. Repurposed 2 containers for the extra. Then talked the piles on the washer/drier. I ended up taking on the whole laundry room. Which doubles as my craft area. I surpassed the 5 required items. 2 bags of trash. 1 bag of crayons to go to school. An even mopped.

This week I completed all goals. Yay!

I did my pantry. I got rid of 3 canned goods, some cereal, some baking items (like old flour, sugar, vanilla, etc.), and some other random things. I also got rid of 3 glass baking dishes, and an entire set of pots & pans.

I'll be doing the laundry room in a few minutes, when I go up to swap loads of laundry.

Re: Mini Minimalist Challenge: 12/31-1/4

Update:

Monday 12.31.12
I took down decor on the 26th. I did get rid of a dozen ornaments, two strings of lights and a few decorations.

Tuesday 1.1.13
I threw away about 1/2 of a garbage bag of things from the bathrooms. Nothing towards my donate/sell pile. But, I reorganized and it looks much better.

Wednesday 1.2.13
I made it through lots of papers and paid all the bills for January. At least 5 items went to the recycling.

Thursday 1.3.13
Went through and bagged up more than five items that we won't eat to give to my mom, who will eat the food. Threw a few things away.

Friday 1.4.13
Don't have one. I did donate a bottle of detergent that we won't use. Used up two samples. Combined two bottles of vinegar into one, so I did get rid of one empty bottle.

Re: Mini Minimalist Challenge: 12/31-1/4

Okay, did the laundry room. 9 items total. I tossed 4 little soap samples, an empty detergent bottle that's been in there for a long time, some Tide pods that are pretty old, a reusable shopping bag that I am giving to my mom because she liked it, and then a shirt and pair of socks that I decided to get rid of while I was putting laundry away.

Then I put some things away that had been in there for awhile, tidied up a bit, and emptied the trash can. Since I was already doing that, I also emptied the trash cans from the bathroom and office. I also decided to vacuum the laundry room, and then I ran the vacuum quickly through the rest of the upstairs. I noticed that the vacuum needs to be cleaned out, so I'm also going to do that before I put it back up on the charger.

I love when these challenges motivate me to do more than just purge!

Re: Mini Minimalist Challenge: 12/31-1/4

My total progress for the week...

12/31: 12 holiday items
1/1: 10 bathroom items
1/2: 19 junk drawer items
1/3: 19 pantry items
1/4: 9 laundry room items

Total: 69 items

I'm also going to go through our little "command center" tonight, which kind of goes along with the Wednesday mission of office and mailing stuff.

I'm so totally behind, but I'm ok with it since I purged 18 clothing items.

It's been a LONG time since I checked in with this thread. I'm going to get started again! I'm late in jumping in this week but I'll see what I can get done.

Monday 12.31.12: Purge 5 holiday items. This could be cards, decorations, gifts you don't plan on keeping, or anything else that is lingering from the holidays.
1. snowman wind chime
2/3. two canoe ornaments
4. relay for life ornament
5. 5 boxes of new in box Christmas cards

Tuesday 1.1.13: Purge 5 items from your bathroom drawers/cabinets.
1. Random bandaid
2. Suction cup thingy to hold frog toy storage on the wall
3. Toys to use with bath crayons
4. Empty shampoo bottle
5. Bath toy

Wednesday 1.2.13: Purge 5 items from your desk/office/mail space. If you don't have a desk/office/mail space, then purge 5 items from your junk drawer.
1. Chop sticks
2. Band aids
3. 2 note pads
4. Rabbits foot
5. Craft

Thursday 1.3.13: Purge 5 items from your pantry. Check expiration dates!
1. Expired pedialyte
2. Bottle vitamin d drops
3. Bottle multivitamin drops
4. Kids ate two fortune cookies
5. Some items from the fridge (moldy left over soup, sausages, rotten clementines, old pepperoni)
I didn't have five items in the pantry so I did a quick clean of the fridge.

Friday 1.4.13: Purge 5 items from your laundry room.
1. 4 expired dog meds
2. 2 dog brushes
3. Dog nail clippers
4. 3 bottles dog shampoo
5. Bottle flea and tick killer
