-28*C with the windchill again today! Ru and I went out to the mall so I could get nylons to go with my dress for Saturday, and I got a hat to go with my new coat too. I don't want to go back out there, but we have our dinner reservations at the Native restaurant tonight, that we had to reschedule due to the storm last week. So we'll have to venture out again. Right now I wanna get under a blanket.

Kari, I don't know of "21st centre learning" as a term, necessarily, but at our school we do levelled reading and small-group instruction and such. I have kids in my class who range on reading level from 2 to 22 and they are all learning at their own pace. We don't to any class novels, unless it is a book I am reading out loud. I do lots of things like scribe for my students who have a good understanding of concepts but not real way to express themselves well in writing. Do you feel that public school would be an option?

21st Century teaching can mean many things. A keys is using technology effectively to individualize each students learning to suit their needs.
At our school all students participate in basic core reading/math time but then are group based on needs for intervention time. This intervention time can be additional help if needed or growth/enrichment if needed. Some schools even have those intervention groups age/grade mixed.
A 21st century school will also use common core standards if the state has adopted them. The standards are then taught using materials that are right for a students level. They don't just follow a straight forward text book. They break down the standards and then find materials that help the students learn and apply the standards.

Following up on Jen's statement - my school actually has NO textbooks for Grades 1 or 2, and only math in grade 3. We have a language workbook (since we are teaching a second language) and a math workbook, but I don't use the math one that often. I usually make my own activities in order to teach to our version of common core. It is nice to have the ability to teach the information the way that will work best for my students.

Re: Basically it's Thursday

My 2 new cake tins arrived today...I'm just wondering now if I should test out the cake tins and take the cakes to work tomorrow. It'd be really bad if it didn't work and I only found out at the last minute.

They came with recipes in on the packaging but I wonder if it's possible to make them with an egg free recipe?

I just wonder about a recipe big enough to fill the tin that will keep it's shape and be smooth enough to show the details in the pan.

The pound cake I made for Cami was delicious but it didn't show the details of the tin at all. I should probably just make one and see what happens.
