Re: Basically it's Thursday

Is his performance in class based on what assignments he completes, and he doesn't finish them? Because that was Ginger's issue in kindy. Teacher said this kid won't sit and write out the numbers one to thirty, she's not mature enough for school. Eval said no, she's at a 4th grade math level already and writing out numbers is beneath her. So it may be just either the work is not holding his attention, or it's not a method that appeals to his brain, etc. Or maybe his teacher's style doesn't work as well for him as the other kids, etc.

Even though we are in a scaled school now (meaning every learning unit is adapted for all levels for each kid), she is not all that excited about doing "extra" work the other kids don't have to do. So many times she just doesn't do it. But we have all these K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade workbooks I bought for summer use, and she can't wait to get home and do those. Sometimes I wonder if we bound all her assignments in a book, would she do more of them?

And every kid has one subject they don't do as well on for different reasons. Rosie's is PE, because she is physically challenged. Ginger's is also PE, because she doesn't do well in environments that are loud, require a lot of adherence to rules, ongoing stamina, and can't stand to "lose" or not be picked for something.

Re: Basically it's Thursday

Rosie actually loves sport and has no idea she sucks at it. She's just, well, physically challenged. When I had the PT conference with the gym teacher at the old school (imagine that, having two kids essentially failing PE for different reasons LOL), he said there is this long skills assessment they do every year to benchmark each kids' fitness. And Rosie's scores were not only low, they were the lowest in the whole grade. So we supplemented, had her do the afterschool sports thing, had her in karate, etc and this year when they ran the half mile at the new school, she made it within the limit. Just barely. But had we not supplemented I'd be having the same (two) discussions with the new gym teacher.

Re: Basically it's Thursday

We are home. Ravioli on to boil. Homemade sauce thawing. Needed an easy supper today, we are all tired.

Janine, Jerry and I had a fun day. MH spent the morning with her cousins at Jerry's sisters so that was when we got all the work done. Then the kids came over to us and Jerry went out to move snow and Ty and MH spent 2 hours picking at each other. It was a bit much. I am happy we are three tonight.

OK, off to finish our fancy dinner

MH is athletic but she comes by that naturally from both of us.

Dinner was yummy and enjoyed by all. MH loved the green beans this time. I sauteed frozen petite green beans in EVOO, salt, pepper, and garlic
