8yo with headaches/migraines UPDATE post 1

My dd is has been getting headaches for a almost a couple years now and on at least two occasions I think she's had a migraine because she became nauseous and threw up. Over the summer she had a CT or MRI--I can't remember which one--that came out fine (whew! I didn't realized how worried I had been until we had to wait a couple days for the results). She also sees a chiropractor, which has helped, but not completely.

I'm just wondering if you've found anything that has helped your little one with headaches. Thank you!

UPDATE 1/4/13: Her eye exam showed her vision is excellent at 20/15 (better than 20/20) so we can cross that off the list. She did have some bumps behind her right eyelid which can be indicative of allergies so maybe that's our next step.

I got them as a kid too. Eventually my grandmother made me cut out some foods and they went away. For me it was chocolate and all nuts. I wasn't allergic, but they caused headaches, and I ate those things a LOT.

Now, nuts and red wine will cause migraines.

A student I use to have had severe migraines and had for years. After tons of tests and specialists they finally discovered food sensitivities were her problem as well. As I recall it was tomato sauce and onions among other things.

I ended up needing glasses. I was far sighted.

My 18 yr old gets them (and has for yrs) when his blood sugar is too low so we up his protein. Also calc/mag in the form of sleep calm powder prevents them completely when I can afford to buy it. If not he gets them weekly with no consistent reason

I can't recommend chiropractic care enough. I've had migraines since I was around 8 myself and it's only when I started going to a chiropractor that they lessened in severity and frequency. I used to get them once or twice a week. now they're very mild and get one maybe every 2-3 months.

This, both DSS got headaches until we had their eyes tested. They both wear glasses, and as long as they actually wear them, don't get migranes anymore. Though food sensitivities is another big cause of headaches.

Thanks for the replies. I never thought about food sensitivities. I wouldn't know where to even start. I could google and maybe find the most common ones. We already try not to eat too much processed food, and stay away from artificial dyes, flavors, and sweeteners.

She's had the eye test at school and the dr. office during her check-ups but she's always passed. I don't know how comprehensive it is, though.

MSG(seasoning) is a HUGE trigger for me
Bright sun is one too...I have to always have sunglasses when I am outside...even when normal people would think it was not that bright.
Also, dehydration will trigger me.
