Disposing of a car seat.

My infant seat expired with the new year. I had fun. Cut straps, cut the cover in quarters, and wrote all over the seat and base. Think anyone can mistake that this is garbage?

Tempting, but I'd probably just hurt myself.

People like to dumpster dive here so dh took a hammer to the one we had to throw away. There was no way it was something people would try to use when he was done with it.

Re: Disposing of a car seat.

We've always removed the harness and covers, then put everything in separate garbage bags - covers in one bag, harness in another, seat in another, and base (if there is one) in yet another bag. It may take a while to get it all gone (we have garbage pickup every 2 weeks, and we fill/use the garbage bags with our normal trash too), but eventually it's all gone and I figure noone is going to dig through all that to put together a seat!

We cut the straps, write on it and then take it to our police station to have them dispose of it. No one here dumpster dives at the police station in our town!

A lot of places will recycle carseats. It's brought our county health department here.
