Re: Explode the code which is first grade
You should do whichever books you NEED for first grade. For example, if your DC has finished book 2 at the end of kindergarten, then you'd need book 3 to start first grade. DD is in first grade this year and has finished book 3, currently in book 4, possibly starting book 5 at the end (we'll see). But I know many kids are further along than she is at this point.
As for the teacher's guide, absolutely NOT necessary. We don't have it and don't see the need for it. You can figure out what the pics are supposed to be on your own. And, the directions are pretty straight forward IMO.

Is there a placement test you can take?

Re: Explode the code which is first grade
DS is in Kindy, and we are almost done book 2. I think we'll complete book 4 by the end of this school year. So, that would put us starting book 5 in 1st grade. Every child has a different pace though.

Re: Explode the code which is first grade
I have heard of some people skipping book 4 and coming back to it after doing books 5 and 6.

Re: Explode the code which is first grade
Book 4 is daunting- that's for sure with all the long vowel short vowel stuff. Book 5 is a much needed relief. LOL.
As for the original question - does your daughter know all the sounds of the alphabet? That's a crucial part to starting books one-eight. are you taking your daughter out of school? |
