Re: Cough remedies

General immune support, like Echinacea, vitamin C and D, zinc, garlic, and honey. I wouldn't try to suppress the cough - he needs to expel what he's got in there. Cherry bark, elderberry, and NAC can help him along the way. I hope he feels better soon!

Re: Cough remedies

My very elderly neighbor clued us in to this--dice an onion, put it on a plate and sprinkle on a tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit til it's nice and juicy. Then have the kiddo drink the juice. It won't necassarily stop the coughing, but it will help clear out the congestion. You don't really want to stop the cough--if he gets gunk built up he will end up with pnemonia.

Dd had a juicy cough a few months ago (she's 2.5). I called peds office. They told me a tablespoon of honey in hot water was just as effective as OTC cough syrup.
