The options are endless, but I tend to use my cast iron low and slow. I do not tend to boil things in cast iron, just simmering and such. You also don't want to submerge it in hot water when it's hot, it will crack. And, I don't think they are dishwasher safe or metal utensil safe, use silicon spatulas or wooden spoons so you don't scratch the enamel. A nylon srubbie for cleaning in the sink with hot soapy water is all it will probably need.

Check pioneer woman for some good soup, chili, beans recipes, she makes easy to follow yummy recipes and she cracks me up too.

Enjoy!
It's Martha Stewart's brand. It came with a card of care instructions. I'll have to check about temps.

I read the Pioneer Woman's blog- she is funny. I should check out her recipes.

Re: What can I cook in a cast iron pot?

I cook everything in my cast iron. I use it from stove top to oven. (Like I might cook some bacon and then throw in cornbread mix and bake it. I love bacon bits on the bottom of a nice crusty corn bread!)

Sorry, was rushed when I wrote the above. Do not place in cold water when it's hot, it can crack. Have fun, let us know what you cook!

Doughnuts! Heavy pots are great for frying homemade doughnuts. I say that because I just spent the afternoon making doughnuts, haha.

Is it oven safe? If it's oven safe you can use it as a dutch oven and there are some really great things you can do with a dutch oven.

I didn't read any responses - but what can't you cook in it? I don't use anything except cast iron. You can cook anything and everything and better than cheap pots.
