Sour milk after a work out?

I was at the gym today with my 2 month old, there's a lady that approached me and asked me if I was breastfeeding so said yes and she asked me if I knew that a work out can cause you to have sour milk! It doesn't make sense but thought I'd ask here if anyone heard that before.

yeah it changes the "flavor" with the way you sweat/dehydrate/etc. At least that is what I have heard...but only if you do EXCESSIVE workouts

I did P90X while nursing and it didn't sour my milk And you SWEAT! I nursed for 11 months and worked out at least 3 times a week (including outside in the summer) and nursed right after, every time, no problem

So if it has to do with dehydration then drink even more water than normal and I shouldn't have an issue!

Anything you do or eat can slightly change the flavor of your milk, but NOTHING can make it go "sour" as in going bad. There are old wives tales about things that would make your milk go sour. But they are just that, old wives tales. Your baby probably won't notice or care about any flavor differences (although some babies are sensitive to certain foods).

Re: Sour milk after a work out?

I wonder who did a taste test. My kids never complained about my working out.

Re: Sour milk after a work out?

I'd think at worst it might be a little salty when the baby latches on.

Ignore that lady. Your milk isn't going to be "sour" unless you pump and leave it out on the counter to spoil.
