diaper rash help needed.

my almost 4 week old has diaper rash, just around his anus where the poo is in contact with the skin. All the other diaper area is clear. Its like a burn and its so red and starting to break down. He has had it for 2 weeks. It got better after a week of using triple paste (I had also tried a bunch of other more natural things). Then it was only better for two days and yesterday came back as a terrible burn. Obviously what I am eating is bothering him (EBF). What do I need to cut out of my diet since I have no idea.
Also the triple paste doesn't stay on very good. I am using a disposable liner with the diapers. We use cotton fitteds and wool. I am doing baking soda baths and air time. What else can I do?

Re: diaper rash help needed.

Anytime my son has had that I have used vaseline and it has cleared up pretty quickly, but then again he did not start getting that until after he was off of breastmilk and on regular food and milk so that could be why.

I do the baking soda baths, also. We use lanolin (left over from first week of BF) as the "diaper cream"-- its a pretty good barrier.

Have you tried coconut oil? It tends to be soothing & create a bit of a barrier.

I swear by lanolin. Give it a try! I use it on my 3 month old almost every change.

Re: diaper rash help needed.

We have tried coconut oil, motherlove rash ointment, my own herbal oil olive salve. All have done nothing.

Re: diaper rash help needed.

Corn starch. Cover the rash in it, put a diaper on, leave it all night. will be better by morning!

Re: diaper rash help needed.

I agree with you that it's likely diet related. Milk, gluten, and soy are the top offenders. Dairy can take 2-3 weeks to get out of your system, so if that's the offender it may take some time to see improvement.
