True tales of diaper abuse: swaddlebee simplex edition
I am a terrible diaper abuser. I haven't used a cloth diaper safe detergent in years, I bleach, I dry on hot, and I have tiny stash. Last year for Xmas DH got me a large swaddlebee simplex. I was smitten and set out to collect them all. I ended up with 11. I had about a dozen other AIO from other companies and two night time diapers.
By April the snaps started coming off the simplex. The first time it happened I sent the diaper back to the company and they sent me a new one, the second diaper it happened to the company put on a new snap, the third diaper I sold at a reduced cost. After that I just got use to using diapers that were missing snaps. One of the diapers actually lost 3 snaps, At that point I had to retire it. The stitching has also started to come unraveled on a few of the diapers. ![]() ![]() At this point most of them have holes worn in the cotton. ![]() ![]() Oddly enough the pul and elastic has held up really well. I'm not totally sure why I'm writing this. I guess because people ask how long diapers last. Other users use tide, bleach from time to time and dry on hot and don't have any issues. I have Grovia shells I've owned since DS was born. I think a lot of it depends on the brand as well as the way the diapers are treated.

Re: True tales of diaper abuse: swaddlebee simplex edition
That's so bizarre! I'm a diaper abuser, too, and our Simplex have held up great. Well, except for the ones the dog has gotten, those are in a pretty sorry state now.

Wow! I have some Simplex that I treated exactly like you described and they still look pretty good at 1.5 years later!

Re: True tales of diaper abuse: swaddlebee simplex edition
The "abuse" you describe shouldn't affect the stitching or snaps, like worst case you might see the elastic stretching out sooner or the PUL delaminating.
I'm going to get rid of a lot of my stash and go with cheapo chinese pocket diapers. I can afford to get a zillion different prints, and if they fall apart sooner, they only cost a few dollars each to begin with. I am just loving the JC Trade Christmas prints I got recently! |

Re: True tales of diaper abuse: swaddlebee simplex edition
I treat my diapers that way too and they have held up great. Have you emailed swaddlebess with pictures and explanation of what ALL you diapers are doing? Maybe they will want to know how the diapers hold up with real life wear. That seems like a product issue to me. I dont understand why companies make diapers that don't stand up to washing and wearing. Who wants diapers you have to gently wash, they are pooped in for goodness sake!
Eta: That wasn't directed at SB I haven't used their products just a general statement.

Re: True tales of diaper abuse: swaddlebee simplex edition
That is odd. I have simplex I bought used 8-9 months ago, I wash with Tide and often bleach, dry in the dryer, etc., but they are still in good shape. Now I have bottombumpers that I've had 18 months or so, purchased used, and some of those have holes in the lining (not the snap-in soaker).

Re: True tales of diaper abuse: swaddlebee simplex edition
I'm actually the most surprised about the holes in the cotton. I have a fuzzie buns I got last Xmas that has held up perfectly. I don't have any issues with my ragababes. The only other diapers I've killed in the last year were used second quality BG AIO and those just need new Velcro. One of the swaddlebees has held up perfectly but the rest are distroyed. I doubt they are all from the same batch since a few were bought used.

Re: True tales of diaper abuse: swaddlebee simplex edition
That is really odd. I now use Tide, dry AIOs on hot (still line dry covers and pockets though.
I think that the washing machine must be the culprit in this scenario. That is the only way I think you could lose that many snaps, have the seems pulled apart and have the cotton shred like that. So strange!
