does anyone HS one child but not another?
DS1 is in kindergarten at a french immersion school. he is doing great, loves school.
DS2 is "supposed" to start school in Sept, but as of right now he can't go (not PL'ed with no desire to even try). I have considered HS'ing him, but I don't want DS1 to feel "left out". I have no intention of pulling DS1 from his school, but I'm just wondering if anyone has successfully hs'ed one child and not another? I was a primary teacher before I had kids, so I know I can do it. I guess I'm just looking for success stories in a similar situation. I never saw myself as a HS'er. this is all so new to me. Re: does anyone HS one child but not another?
I do. Right now I homeschool my oldest and my younger 3 are in a public elementary school. Our junior high schools and high school are all terribly overcrowded and despite living in a district with a good reputation, my daughter was falling through the cracks because she wasn't failing enough. I do what is best for each child every year. I am considering a math & science rigorous school for my 2nd and 3rd children, who are academically inclined, (it doesn't start until 8th grade; they are currently 4th and 2nd) and I will probably end up homeschooling my 4th at some point.

I do, too. I hs my 1st grader but my 3rd grader is in public school. He LOVES it there and is doing well, so right now I am happy to let him stay there. He doesn't feel left out but he is envious that she doesn't have "homework" after school.
My daughter was having a hard time socially in kindergarten, and just needed some extra time with me. I don't know what we will do next year. I would do either. |

Many schools/districts allow you to "opt out" of kindergarten or even opt to hold your child back "just because". Only you can decide what is best for each child. I definitely plan on taking homeschool on a case by case basis for my kids.

My oldest is homeschooled and my middle is in a small private k-8 school. Up until this year I was homeschooling both but my middle wanted to go to school. She is thriving there. .My oldest is happy at home. I don't know what will happen with my third. She is in preschool this year just for fun really and next year I plan on homeschooling. We'll see how it works next year and then I will decide.

Re: does anyone HS one child but not another?
Yep My oldest is 2nd grade and just is not a public school kinda kid and I dont want him to have to "conform" my Kindergartener loves school though every few weeks he goes through the I want to stay home and homeschool though it usually has something to do with someone messing with him once we correct it he is in love with public school again.

Re: does anyone HS one child but not another?
I feel better about this, thanks ladies.
I absolutely could simply opt out of kindy for him. He's socially and academically ready, but he refuses to PL and they won't let him go in diapers (for obvious reasons). We've been training him for over a year and a half with NO success, and although everyone keeps saying "he'll be trained by september" I have serious doubts that that is true. I guess I'll play it by ear and see how he is by Sept.

Re: does anyone HS one child but not another?
a lot of people do 1 in and 1 out and do just fine
![]() It's not my choice, but more because it would complicate our lives a lot to do so. Unless I had a compelling reason to put one of my kids into PS we'll just HS because it works for us as a family unit. ![]()

Re: does anyone HS one child but not another?
It's an interesting question, one that I have pondered. My oldest seems like she is going to LOVE public school, but I am planning to try and homeschool her anyhow. My kids are 1, 2 and 3, and I have a feeling that #2 will need to be homeschooled due to special needs, even if #1 and #3 end up in school.
