what was I thinking?

I bought my just-turned-6 year old an American Girl doll... what was I thinking?? She barely plays with it, and when she does play, the hair gets all gross and tangled. CRY! I spent $115 on this doll, and then my MIL bought a bunch of the outfits. I'm just so disappointed, I guess it's time to put McKenna away until DD is older.

What age do you think is more appropriate for AG dolls? I really thought she would appreciate and take care of McKenna: (

Re: what was I thinking?

I think I was around 8 when I started really wanting (and eventually got) an American Girls doll. I think it really depends on the kid, though. Maybe your daughter is overwhelmed with new toys right now? Did she get a lot of stuff for Christmas? It couldn't hurt to put the doll away for a month or two until the newness of other stuff wears off.

I read somewhere that you can use diluted fabric softener in a spray bottle to detangle doll hair. IDK if it's okay to use but you could maybe google it ...

My oldest never got into hers and I won't consider getting one for dd2.

Something I pinned on Pinterest awhile ago. It is for Barbie hair but I'm assuming it would work for all doll hair. http://www.housingaforest.com/fix-barbies-hair/

I'd say between 8-10 yrs old would be a good age to appreciate an AG doll.

I ended up using her detangling spray, Lol. She honestly didn't get a ton for Christmas, the doll and then some books and clothing, but my mom got her an Innotab 2 and she has been pretty fixated on it. Oh well :c

Re: what was I thinking?

My dd got McKenna for her 6th birthday last year. She actually takes good care of her and plays with her more than her other dolls.

However, I'm kicking myself for buying a 50 dollar Dr. Mommy baby she wanted for Xmas as well as a lalaloopsy and bed. They got play time the day she opened them and not since.

Re: what was I thinking?

Ugh I am glad I waited. My 7 year old REALLY wanted one this year but because she did her 6 year old sister wanted one too. I decided 7 + 8 would be better. I can only hope!

Re: what was I thinking?

I don't know if its bs but they actually recommend using only the AG brush and water on their hair. That's what we've done and her hair is in great shape.
